Take Chances!

So many things have gone on in our lives the last few years. What I’ve learned is; some things are out of life’s control. My life has been a world wind of ups and downs and back around again. Though through those times. I’ve learned to take chances. I use to be so afraid of what could happen, what wouldn’t happen or how others would feel. However, I can tell you nearly losing your life can change all of that. Nothing can open your eyes more than waking up from something you were supposed to die from. Through the last 4 1/2 years I stop being afraid of what could be or what might be and I have learned to just go with it. From my blog to my YouTube channel to writing my books. I have learned that I will never know what can be if I don’t try. I stop doubting myself and just go with it. One thing I know for sure you never know what can happen unless you try.

I decided from that moment I left the hospital 4 1/2 year ago. If something is meant to be; it will be. With the support of my husband and my children I have learned to take chances. Greatest decision in my life! So I say to you…. Take a chance!

Chris is Gone….

So on August 12th around 6 a.m. Greg drove Chris to college. It was a very sad moment for me because due to troubles with the rental car service. I was unable to go. Not only was I extremely sad for that reason my baby was going to college. With him playing football there is no telling when we will see him again. Possible Christmas because he could possibly have a game during the Thanksgiving holiday. I thought I would get away without tears however that was not so. As soon as I went to kiss him farewell the tears began to roll down my face. I’ve been trying to keep my mind off the fact he is gone but its really hard. As well last night 8-14-15 Kameron had a breakdown a serious one. He was so use to having Chris home. He would wrestle with him and Autumn when he came home from school and they were like his little buddies. It’s hard when the little ones have to deal with such a huge change. And the last thing Kam said was “How long is college?” When he found out it was 4 years he was completely devastated. Poor little guy!

So my advice to parent going through the same thing. I just told my little Kam and Autumn just because he isn’t in the house anymore. Doesn’t mean he can’t call or text. And most importantly he will always be on your mind and in your heart. The best thing to do with younger siblings even if you think they aren’t that close is to talk with them weeks in advance. Prepare everyone as much as possible for the change. As well tell the older sibling who is leaving to remember their siblings. Even though they have this new found freedom they still have siblings at home. I have always told my children that family is above eveything. When their father and I are gone, all they have is one another. It is really hard for one of the children to leave the house but you can adapt and learn to overcome the situation.

Summertime Illness!

It’s no fun being ill during the summer. Especially on nice summer days where the sun is shining the pool is cool and other children are outside playing. Autumn has been sick all week and so have I. Unfortunately, due to both of our illnesses we have been unable to participate with anything other than the bed. Tips to keeping little ones happy while sick in bed during the summer.

Make sure to have plenty of popsicles, juices and water especially if they are unable to eat.

Find fun word games or card games that you can play with one another while in bed.

If you have a daughter and she is stable give bed manicures and pedicures

Have some plain paper, coloring books and crayons or markers handy.

If you or your child has a tablet or even on your cell phone let them watch movies. My little sweetie loves watching videos on YouTube

Make plans to do something fun once they are better.

If they are just too sick to participate in any of that. If possible make sure they remain cool. If your child is diuretic and vomiting my doctor suggests the B.R.A.T diet which is simply: bread, rice, apples or toast. No matter the age even adults keep Pedialyte in your home to replace the electrolytes and other nutrients loss due to diarreha and vomiting. For me my little one has been in my room all week. Which not only keeps both of us away from the rest of the family and our illness contained to one room. We are also comforting one another. Remember if things get too bad or last too long consult your physician or make a trip to urgent care or emergency room. Some things are out of parents control.

Staying Focused!

Hello Everyone,

I know its been a while since I made a post. Sorry to all of you who look for those from me. I am back to staying focused and staying on track with everything. The plan is to do a weekly blog post. I can’t commit to a specific day because life can be crazy. Soon I want to start posting recipes. I guess the advice I want to give to all of you is. No matter what you are doing in life rather you work from home or you work for “The Man” we have to maintain focused. This is something I struggle with often, then I tend to get frustrated with myself because I am not where I should be. Bottom line I can’t put blame on anyone but myself. Especially with my book that I’m sure so many people are waiting for me to complete. I am glad I have gotten myself to a point where I can stay focused finally and focus on why I am doing what I’m doing. The main goal is to provide a stable future for my children. So for me if I am not staying on track then I am not getting any closer to providing my children with the future I want them to have. Though I teach them to be independent and learn to provide for themselves. I still want them to have some kind of financial security in the event they ever get in a bind or my death.

My problem is letting other things get in the way of doing what I need to do. As well as wanting to do to many things at once. If you are like me. My suggestion to you is, outline your plan. Ask yourself these questions:

What is it I want to do? If the answer is many things. Start with the easiest thing first

What is my timeline? Decide when you want to complete your tasks and do your best to stay on track

What is standing in my way? If the answer is family, health, outside job, finances. These are things I deal with, when I can’t sew I work on my book and pdf patterns, financial start off slow or find the things that don’t cost money and focus on that first. Like my husband always tells me. You are working to get things done and you can’t do everything overnight. Don’t stress yourself out. As long as you have the goals in place and are setting them in motion then you are much closer to your goals than you were before.

I could go on and on but my suggestion to you is to love what you are doing. If you don’t love it, if you are doing it because someone else thinks you should. If you don’t love what you do you want get the results you are looking for and you will find yourself to be miserable in the end.

My little Princess turned 6 on June 11th. She went to school so pleased and happy and came home to be just as happy and pleased. I tried my best to make sure she had everything she wanted for her birthday. I did a really good job of accomplishing that. Though she didn’t go to school on the last day, we still had a pleasant day. Due to unforeseen circumstances Saturday didn’t go as planned for her party. We did get to spend time with one of me and Greg’s good friend and her adorable little boy. Though we had a great time decorating cupcakes and foam picture frames and door hangs. She ended up spending her evening crying on my chest until she went to sleep. The reason? None of her family she wanted to see came for her. Though I kind of expected that to happen and the boys have grown use to it. My precious princess holds a lot of faith in the people she loves and trusts. How could I break her heart and tell her the truth about people? The answer I couldn’t. I took the high road and told her, sometimes things come up in peoples lives and they probably got busy. However you know with our family we can always see them another time. The difference I noticed last night was my boys would normally hold their pain inside and just go to bed then wake up happy the next day. That wasn’t the case with my angel princess. Being a woman and growing up with broken hearts I know exactly how she felt. I just wrapped my eyes around her held her as tight as possible and gave her as many kisses as I possibly could.

My tip to parents who have to deal with this type of disappointment with their children girl or boy. Do your best to let them know how much you love them. If they have siblings let them know that as long as they have their parents and brothers or sisters they will always have a great time no matter what. As well never stop wrapping your arms around them in comfort. Kiss them as much as possible and do your best to preserve their innocence and their hearts. Be their protector when no one else will be. Tell them that sometimes what you do for other people they may not do the same for you. That doesn’t mean you have to love them any less, just tell them to never expect things from people that way they are never disappointed.

Unfortunately you may sometimes have to teach them these life lessons at a very early age. Just like I had to do with my precious little angel.
However, today she did wake up feeling much better playing and happy as always with her brothers, her dad and I. Her precious smile makes me want to keep her as precious as this for as long as I can.

2nd Born Graduated!

graduation 5-28-15

The moment he was born he put a smile on my face. Watching him grow from a small boy to a young man has been the most gratifying moments in a mom’s life. He is the 2nd of 7 and has been a great role model and inspiration for everyone in the family. He believes in hard work and does whatever he has to in order to improve himself. He was a true team player in football and managed two years in a row to achieve 2nd All-State in track/field. Though he has two colleges he hasn’t yet made a decision on whichever one he chooses I know he will do well. May 28th was one of the happiest and saddest moments of my life. And just think I have to do this 5 more times.

Letting Go…

Letting go is hard to do…

When I became a mother all I ever focused on was making sure to take the best care of my children. Making sure they were fed, diapers were changed, naps were given and teaching was being taught. As the children became older. The focus became, making sure they became knowledgeable about the world and their surroundings. Now that I have one adult child, another one going off to college a soon to be 11 grader, 9th grader, 7th grader, 3rd grader and 1st grader next school year. It’s beginning to dawn on me they are really growing up. They will essentially all leave the nest one day. Due to most of the children being so close in age I could potentially have a child going off into the world every 2-4 years. My oldest child is already off on his own (Keith) As well, he texted me two nights ago saying he may be moving to Tennessee. Gulp! & Tears My second oldest (Christopher) will soon be going to college in the fall. Again many tears. My once little babies are all growing up on me.

I’ve been a mother longer than I have been an adult. I was a teen parent yes and not for one moment do I regret it. The point is, I don’t know how to be anything else than be a mother. My life has been solely focused on my children. I knew they would grow up but letting go is so hard to do. I tell my sons when they do things that I don’t agree with or when they get in trouble for schoolwork or bending the rules. You have to decide what type of man you want to be… As well what kind of example they want to show to their baby sister. Their actions may some day determine the type of man she may marry. I often hear that my children are good kids, well-mannered with good values and morals. That they are respectful, sweet, kind and hard-workers. It makes me feel good and lets me know that when they do leave. I know they will be able to make it on their own.

I often share my feelings with my husband (their father) and my therapist (long story) about my feelings. They both say the same thing, “It’s time you start finding things that make you happy. Making more time for Nika & Greg.” My response is how? All I ever wanted was to be everything to my children. Something I never had with my parents. All I ever wanted was to love them unconditionally, make my self available to them whenever they needed me. Again something I didn’t have from my parents. My heart doesn’t let me think about being Nika only about being mom. I will always be mom and they will always need me I know. But sending them off into the world is a scary thing to me. Especially since my heart has always belonged to them. Sending them into the world to start their own lives breaks a piece of me with each child that leaves home.

I’ve fallen in love with couponing!

So, I was added to a couponing page on Facebook by one of my friends. I was so happy learning about all the deals and ways to save. However I still wasn’t confident enough until this week. I have been using coupons all week and have grabbed some major deals and savings. Below you will see my last trip to the store this week I saved $80.56 using coupons and my mperks cash back reward dollars earned.

Follow Your Dreams!

I know with my last post I was fearful of submitting my book. However if you have noticed from my Instagram post as well as my YouTube videos. I submitted it and I received the proof to analyze. I have a few changes to make. However once I do that, my book will be available for sale. I use to think I was getting to old to follow my dreams. So, I stopped trying to accomplish my goals.

When I received my proof, I couldn’t be happier. My dream of being an author was coming true. That accomplishment let me know that you are never too old to follow your dreams. Rather the book is a hit or a fail. The point is I started it and followed through to the end.

My advice to you is follow your dreams. Sometimes the sacrifices you make to get to those dreams are well worth it.

Sincerely,
Nika
